The story of 'Isa (Jesus)

Allah (عز وجل) allowed Maryam (عليها السلام) to give birth to 'Isa (عليه السلام). And when she came with her child to her people, some began to talk about her. And what they say about Maryam is a very great lie. They said very great lies about her, they told gross slander about her. But Allah (عز وجل) made 'Isa (عليه السلام) speak so that he would be a sign for the people.

'Isa ibn Maryam (عليه السلام) said while he had just been born

قَالَ إِنِّى عَبْدُ ٱللَّهِ ءَاتَىٰنِىَ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ وَجَعَلَنِى نَبِيًّۭا ۝ وَجَعَلَنِى مُبَارَكًا أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُ وَأَوْصَٰنِى بِٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَٱلزَّكَوٰةِ مَا دُمْتُ حَيًّۭا ۝ وَبَرًّۢا بِوَٰلِدَتِى وَلَمْ يَجْعَلْنِى جَبَّارًۭا شَقِيًّۭا ۝ وَٱلسَّلَٰمُ عَلَىَّ يَوْمَ وُلِدتُّ وَيَوْمَ أَمُوتُ وَيَوْمَ أُبْعَثُ حَيًّۭا

[Jesus] said, "Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet. And He has made me blessed wherever I am and has enjoined upon me prayer and zakah as long as I remain alive And [made me] dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me a wretched tyrant. And peace is on me the day I was born and the day I will die and the day I am raised alive."

Surah Maryam (19:30-33)

Allah (عز وجل) gave him the gospel. And who is his mother? She is the lady of the women of the universe whom Allah (عز وجل) chose.

As soon as 'Isa (عليه السلام) was born, something happened on earth. Idols fell in the east and the west, 'Isa son of Maryam (عليه السلام) was born and much of the association with Allah (عز وجل) collapsed and fell because 'Isa ibn Maryam (عليه السلام) was born. Even the devils in the sky were pelted. Even Iblis in person set about searching and asked his soldiers to search for what is happening on earth. What happened? And he sent the devils everywhere on earth, from east to west and from north to south.

The devils searched for what is happening. And they arrived in Palestine and the newborn was in Bethlehem. Who? It is 'Isa son of Maryam (عليه السلام). In whose arms? His mother the virgin. And the devils wanted to come near. And when they came near, they found the angels protecting whom? Protecting 'Isa (عليه السلام) and his mother. It is the invocation of Maryam (عليها السلام):

وَإِنِّى أُعِيذُهَا بِكَ وَذُرِّيَّتَهَا مِنَ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِ ٱلرَّجِيمِ

and I seek refuge for her in You and [for] her descendants from Satan, the expelled [from the mercy of Allah].

Surah Al 'Imran (3:36)

Allah (عز وجل) protected him and saved him from every pelted devil. Her and her son 'Isa (عليه السلام). The signs began, and the people began to talk about it. What is the story of this man? He has just been born and he speaks already like a man. It is another sign of Allah (عز وجل).

The Children of Israel began to talk and to discuss. The news spread among them. That Allah (عز وجل) had made a child who had just been born speak.

And the habit of the children of Israel

أَفَكُلَّمَا جَآءَكُمْ رَسُولٌۢ بِمَا لَا تَهْوَىٰٓ أَنفُسُكُمُ ٱسْتَكْبَرْتُمْ فَفَرِيقًۭا كَذَّبْتُمْ وَفَرِيقًۭا تَقْتُلُونَ

But is it [not] that every time a messenger came to you, [O Children of Israel], with what your souls did not desire, you were arrogant? And a party [of messengers] you denied and another party you killed.

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:87)

And this is how 'Isa (عليه السلام) was. He was a small child, who played with the others but signs appeared upon him. Allah (عز وجل) made miracles for him, he was talking and playing with the children. He said to one of them, I will tell you what you ate at home and I will tell you what you have at home. I will tell you what foodstuff you have at home while he was still a child and his story circulated among the people. Who is this child? Until the Jews plotted to kill Maryam (عليها السلام) and her son 'Isa (عليه السلام).

They wanted to kill them and Allah (عز وجل) said to Maryam (عليها السلام): Go out! Go out with 'Isa toward a secure and stable land. Toward a land where a river flows, which has plantations. Toward a place that is secure and has a flowing river.

And Maryam (عليها السلام) left with her small child 'Isa (عليه السلام) and they fled Palestine, some say in the direction of Egypt. And they stayed there for some time then Allah (عز وجل) revealed to them to return home once again.

'Isa (عليه السلام) reached the age of youth, he called people to Allah (عز وجل). And he taught people the religion of Allah (عز وجل). And 'Isa (عليه السلام) liked to withdraw (to remain alone). He withdrew into the deserts or into the forests, and he withdrew near the rivers; to meditate and worship Allah (عز وجل). And his mother spent for him. And he spent a certain time calling people to Allah (عز وجل) and the Jews plotted to harm him. They had hatred toward him and they were jealous of him. They wanted to assault him but each time Allah (عز وجل) saved him.

And he found there a woman sitting and crying. He asked her why she was crying? And she said to him: "I have lost a daughter, and she is the only child I have. And I promised my lord that I would not leave her grave, either I see her, or I die like her." And 'Isa son of Maryam (عليه السلام) said to her: "If I invoke Allah and He gives you back your daughter, will you return home?" She said "Yes" O prophet of Allah.

And he prayed and invoked Allah (عز وجل) that He resurrect this girl. Then he went toward her grave and he sat down near it and said: O young girl! Come out by the permission of Allah. And the grave began to move. Then he called her a second time, and the grave cracked open. Then he called her a third time, and the girl rose and her hair had turned white.

And the prophet of Allah (عز وجل) questioned her; "Why did you delay?" She said: At first Allah revealed to an angel to assemble my body and then Allah revealed to him to give me back my soul and then thirdly the grave cracked open and I came out of it and I believed that the hour of judgment had come and my hair turned white.

Then she looks toward her mother and she (the mother) was afraid. She said O my mother! Fear Allah and be patient! And leave the command to Allah. Why do you want me to agonize once again? Then she went toward 'Isa (عليه السلام) and said to him "O prophet of Allah, ask Allah to take me back once again, without agonizing once again" And he invoked Allah (عز وجل) for her and it was a sign among the children of Israel.

That 'Isa (عليه السلام) commands the dead and they come out of their graves by the permission of Allah (عز وجل). And 'Isa (عليه السلام) also rubbed his hand over the one blind from birth and he came to see. And he rubbed the face of the leper and Allah (عز وجل) healed him. And 'Isa (عليه السلام) came to the children of Israel with clay and he shaped it in the image of the bird. Then he blew into it and it flew by the permission of Allah (عز وجل). These were evident signs

وَإِذْ قَالَ ٱللَّهُ يَٰعِيسَى ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ ٱذْكُرْ نِعْمَتِى عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَىٰ وَٰلِدَتِكَ إِذْ أَيَّدتُّكَ بِرُوحِ ٱلْقُدُسِ تُكَلِّمُ ٱلنَّاسَ فِى ٱلْمَهْدِ وَكَهْلًۭا ۖ وَإِذْ عَلَّمْتُكَ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ وَٱلْحِكْمَةَ وَٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَ وَٱلْإِنجِيلَ ۖ وَإِذْ تَخْلُقُ مِنَ ٱلطِّينِ كَهَيْـَٔةِ ٱلطَّيْرِ بِإِذْنِى فَتَنفُخُ فِيهَا فَتَكُونُ طَيْرًۢا بِإِذْنِى ۖ وَتُبْرِئُ ٱلْأَكْمَهَ وَٱلْأَبْرَصَ بِإِذْنِى ۖ وَإِذْ تُخْرِجُ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ بِإِذْنِى

[The Day] when Allah will say, "O Jesus, Son of Mary, remember My favor upon you and upon your mother when I supported you with the Pure Spirit and you spoke to the people in the cradle and in maturity; and [remember] when I taught you writing and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel; and when you designed from clay [what was] like the form of a bird with My permission, then you breathed into it, and it became a bird with My permission; and you healed the blind and the leper with My permission; and when you brought forth the dead with My permission

Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:110)

Evident signs that Allah (عز وجل) gave to whom? To 'Isa son of Maryam (عليه السلام). As for the disciples, they believed in him. But the Jews did not believe in him. Stubbornness, hatred and jealousy.

أَفَكُلَّمَا جَآءَكُمْ رَسُولٌۢ بِمَا لَا تَهْوَىٰٓ أَنفُسُكُمُ ٱسْتَكْبَرْتُمْ

But is it [not] that every time a messenger came to you, [O Children of Israel], with what your souls did not desire, you were arrogant?

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:87)

Even with all these evident signs, you do not want to believe in him? Signs that Allah (عز وجل) gave to His prophet 'Isa (عليه السلام).

'Isa (عليه السلام) paid no attention to those who were hostile, who opposed him and who fought him. And he is one of the 5 prophets endowed with strength of soul (Oulou Al-Azm). He endured what his people made him suffer. He bore their persecutions, the Jews insulted him, they talked about him and about his mother but 'Isa (عليه السلام) paid no attention to it. He invoked Allah (عز وجل) and He revealed to him the gospel. Confirming what he had in the Torah.

'Isa (عليه السلام) transmitted the religion of Allah (عز وجل), and the people fought him. And they rival him and around him the disciples who believed in him, and who helped him and who honored him. And they asked him for something. What did the disciples of 'Isa (عليه السلام) ask him? They came to him and said: O 'Isa, we want to see a sign.

And before that, 'Isa (عليه السلام) had asked them to fast 30 days. And before breaking the fast on the thirty-first day, they asked 'Isa (عليه السلام) for something. He asked them what they wanted. They said we want a sign, we want Allah (عز وجل) to send down to us from the sky a table spread.

إِذْ قَالَ ٱلْحَوَارِيُّونَ يَٰعِيسَى ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ هَلْ يَسْتَطِيعُ رَبُّكَ أَن يُنَزِّلَ عَلَيْنَا مَآئِدَةًۭ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ ۖ قَالَ ٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

[And remember] when the disciples said, "O Jesus, Son of Mary, can your Lord send down to us a table [spread with food] from the heaven? [Jesus] said," Fear Allah, if you should be believers."

Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:112)

'Isa son of Maryam (عليه السلام) questioned them: "What drives you to want this table spread?" Why do you want a table spread to come down from the sky? The disciples answered

قَالُوا۟ نُرِيدُ أَن نَّأْكُلَ مِنْهَا وَتَطْمَئِنَّ قُلُوبُنَا وَنَعْلَمَ أَن قَدْ صَدَقْتَنَا وَنَكُونَ عَلَيْهَا مِنَ ٱلشَّٰهِدِينَ

They said, "We wish to eat from it and let our hearts be reassured and know that you have been truthful to us and be among its witnesses."

Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:113)

We want nothing O 'Isa (عليه السلام), we want to eat from this table, we want to reassure our hearts. And we want to see another sign of Allah (عز وجل). And Allah (عز وجل) gave the name of this story to a very long surah in the holy Quran which is called The table spread (Al-Ma'idah - Surah 5). Which Allah (عز وجل) sent down to the disciples of 'Isa (عليه السلام).

And 'Isa son of Maryam (عليه السلام), advised his people and his companions and he advised the disciples. He said to them: Fear Allah! What do you want? Perhaps this table will come down upon you but perhaps you will not take it at its just value, and Allah will punish you. Why do you ask for something for which you will perhaps not be able to thank Allah enough.

They said we want this table, we want to reassure our hearts, we want to eat from it. And 'Isa (عليه السلام) stood up invoking his lord for long nights

قَالَ عِيسَى ٱبْنُ مَرْيَمَ ٱللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَآ أَنزِلْ عَلَيْنَا مَآئِدَةًۭ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ تَكُونُ لَنَا عِيدًۭا لِّأَوَّلِنَا وَءَاخِرِنَا وَءَايَةًۭ مِّنكَ ۖ وَٱرْزُقْنَا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلرَّٰزِقِينَ

Said Jesus, the son of Mary, "O Allah, our Lord, send down to us a table [spread with food] from the heaven to be for us a festival for the first of us and the last of us and a sign from You. And provide for us, and You are the best of providers."

Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:114)

And our lord answered the invocation of 'Isa (عليه السلام). And the companions of 'Isa (عليه السلام), as well as the disciples. Allah (عز وجل) granted their wishes. And a great table came down from the sky. Which contained every sort of food and drink, what they had already seen and what they had never seen. Every sort of meat and fruit, of vegetables, of fish. A food that had never been seen on earth which Allah (عز وجل) sent down from the sky.

And it was a festival for their first and their last. And when Allah (عز وجل) sent down this table. A prodigy and a miracle for whom? For His servant and His prophet 'Isa son of Maryam (عليه السلام). This table came down from the sky and imagine how the table comes down from the sky. And the children of Israel and the companions of 'Isa (عليه السلام) were in the thousands. All looked at this table.

And when the table came down, no one approached it. 'Isa (عليه السلام) said to them: "Eat!" Eat what Allah has provided for you. The people were afraid and only the poor, only the needy approached the table. And the poor are those who follow the prophet. It is the poor, it is they who presented themselves to 'Isa (عليه السلام) to eat from this table. But the others, they had stopped. They wanted to know what was going to happen to these people.

The poor ate, the needy ate. The weak ate. The sick ate of the food that Allah (عز وجل) sent down from the sky. And when they ate, Allah (عز وجل) left no sick person without healing him. Not a blind man without curing him, not a leper without Allah (عز وجل) curing him. Not a weak one, not a sick one and not someone afflicted with an illness without Allah (عز وجل) removing the illness from him. These are signs among the signs of Allah (عز وجل). These are signs and a provision that Allah (عز وجل) gave to 'Isa son of Maryam (عليه السلام) and to his companions.

'Isa (عليه السلام) continued to invite people to Allah (عز وجل). He transmitted the religion of Allah (عز وجل). And his mother, Maryam (عليها السلام) the virgin, worked with her hands in order to spend money for her son. The one about whom the people changed their minds. From an enemy who has hatred and jealousy to a man who believes in him. It is 'Isa son of Maryam (عليه السلام); he continues to invite people to Allah (عز وجل).

'Isa (عليه السلام) continued to invite his people to Allah (عز وجل). He gave them reminders, and Allah (عز وجل) made miracles for him. And the evident signs. But the Jews are the Jews. Did they leave the prophets and the messengers alone? Did they let people worship Allah (عز وجل) peacefully? Never! Either they disbelieve the prophets and the messengers, or they try to kill them.

When they saw that the people were turning toward 'Isa (عليه السلام), and the people loved his words. The people went toward him to listen to his speeches. He reminded them of Allah (عز وجل). And his supporters and his disciples had increased. That is when the Jews plotted. And they sent word to certain kings that 'Isa son of Maryam (عليه السلام) was going to take their kingship from them.

They said what must we do then? The Jews said "Nothing at all, seek him and kill him for no one will stand in your way" Because only the poor and the needy support him. Go to him and slay him and kill him! For if you do that, you will be saved and you will save the people.

And they did what the Jews had told them. And they set out toward him, wanting to kill him. When they set out toward him Allah (عز وجل) informed 'Isa (عليه السلام) that there were people who wanted to kill him and that there were people who had made a plot.

وَمَكَرُوا۟ وَمَكَرَ ٱللَّهُ ۖ وَٱللَّهُ خَيْرُ ٱلْمَٰكِرِينَ ۝ إِذْ قَالَ ٱللَّهُ يَٰعِيسَىٰٓ إِنِّى مُتَوَفِّيكَ وَرَافِعُكَ إِلَىَّ وَمُطَهِّرُكَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَجَاعِلُ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوكَ فَوْقَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ

And the disbelievers planned, but Allah planned. And Allah is the best of planners. [Mention] when Allah said, "O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you [in submission to Allah alone] superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection.

Surah Al 'Imran (3:54-55)

And 'Isa (عليه السلام) was with 12 of his disciples in one of their houses. He was sitting, and the people were looking for him. They were looking for whom? They were looking for 'Isa son of Maryam (عليه السلام). They were looking for him to kill him, they want to kill the man who reminds people of Allah (عز وجل). They want to kill whom? The pure heart, the purified soul. Why? Because he invited them to Allah (عز وجل). He is the last prophet of the children of Israel. But they still wanted to kill him, they wanted to kill him and the people looked for him everywhere. To the left and to the right, until certain people told the others where 'Isa (عليه السلام) was.

'Isa son of Maryam (عليه السلام) was sitting, and all around him there were 12 of his disciples. They were sitting, and waiting to see what was going to happen. Allah (عز وجل) promised him that He was going to save him and the people were banging on the door on them, they wanted to break it. But 'Isa (عليه السلام) questioned his disciples, he said to them: Who volunteers to be with me in Paradise? And at my degree in Paradise? Allah will give him my image, and he will go out to them.

And the youngest and most courageous of them said "Me!". Me O prophet of Allah. I will go out. And 'Isa (عليه السلام) said to him "Sit down". Whoever wants to go, Allah will give him my image. He will be my companion in Paradise, that is to say at the same degree as me. And the youngest stood up, the same person, the most courageous and the one with the most faith. And 'Isa son of Maryam (عليه السلام) then said to him "You may go". You may go to meet them.

And the roof of the house opened. And the angels came down to take whom? - 'Isa son of Maryam (عليه السلام). The sky opened for whom? For 'Isa ibn Maryam (عليه السلام). To rid you of those who did not believe. Allah (عز وجل) saved him from the hands of the disbelievers, the impure ones, the Jews. Allah (عز وجل) saved him from those who wanted to kill him.

The one to whom Allah (عز وجل) had given the form of 'Isa (عليه السلام) went out. They caught him, they left with him, and they had put thistle on his head. They placed him on a crucifix to kill him and when they killed him, and Maryam (عليها السلام) the virgin, was watching. She watched him, she thought it was her son and he was killed. And the Jews were glad and happy and they said

وَقَوْلِهِمْ إِنَّا قَتَلْنَا ٱلْمَسِيحَ عِيسَى ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ رَسُولَ ٱللَّهِ وَمَا قَتَلُوهُ وَمَا صَلَبُوهُ وَلَٰكِن شُبِّهَ لَهُمْ

And [for] their saying, "Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah." And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them.

Surah An-Nisa (4:157)

Allah (عز وجل) protected him, saved him from the hands of the disbelievers. From the hands of the vicious ones. Allah (عز وجل) saved His prophet 'Isa (عليه السلام) and the Jews had believed that they had killed him and Maryam (عليها السلام) sat down to weep and Jibril (عليه السلام) came to her to reassure her, to announce to her that Allah (عز وجل) had raised 'Isa (عليه السلام) to Him and that He had saved him from the hands of the vicious and the disbelievers and 'Isa son of Maryam (عليه السلام) will come down at the end of times.

We await the prophet of Allah (عز وجل), 'Isa ibn Maryam (عليه السلام). We have an appointment with this prophet whom the angels will bring down from the sky, as they raised him in his time, he will come down and the people of the book will believe in him before his death and the day of judgment. He will come down and Allah (عز وجل) will support him and he will kill the Antichrist (Dajjal - False Messiah) and Allah (عز وجل) will help him fight the Jews and the people will follow him and he will reign with the religion of Allah (عز وجل) until he dies normally.
