إدريس عليه السلام - الرجل المرفوع

(Idris - peace be upon him - the elevated man)

Discover the story of Idris (Enoch), one of the most active prophets of Allah, who was raised to a high rank and whose good deeds continue to reward humanity.

The mission of the prophet Idris

مهمة النبي إدريس

Centuries after Adam, Allah (سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ) sent a prophet named Idris. Idris is a prophet, not a messenger. He did not declare new laws for the religion. The people of his time still worship Allah. He simply came to remind them, to ask them to do good and avoid evil.

Idris (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) is a prophet among the prophets of God. Idris was among the most active of the prophets. He left no one on Earth without teaching him to do good and avoid evil, to the point that Allah said to him: "O Idris, every day, you have in your balance the equivalent of all the good deeds of all the people of the Earth".

وَاذْكُرْ فِي الْكِتَابِ إِدْرِيسَ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ صِدِّيقًا نَّبِيًّا

And mention in the Book, Idrees. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet.

Surah 19, verse 56

The reward of good deeds

أجر الأعمال الصالحة

Why? Because he who shows the good will have the reward of the good that this person does. Idris worked for the worship of Allah (سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ) among all the humans of his time. Therefore, every time someone does good, it is added to the balance of the deeds of Idris (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), Idris then rejoiced at this news. He even asked his Lord to prolong his life.

Idris knew that every day, he has in his balance the equivalent of all the good deeds of all the people of the Earth of that time. What an honor! And what generosity from our Lord! This incites every person to teach people to do good.

The death of the prophet Idris

موت النبي إدريس

One day, he saw an angel among the angels and there Idris (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) asks this angel: "If you see the angel of death, then ask him to delay my death".

Idris asked this of the angel, but the latter answered him: "And why do you not go up to heaven yourself to ask this of the angel of death?" And indeed, the angel carried him toward the heavens, the first heaven, then the second, then the third, then the fourth, and there they came across the angel of death.

The angel greeted the angel of death. He said to him: "Idris greets you O angel of death!". Then the angel of death returned the greeting to him and said to him: "and what does he (Idris) want?"

The angel answered: - Idris wants you to prolong his life.

The angel of death: - And why does he want that?

The angel: - He wants that so that his good deeds increase

The angel of death: - Where is Idris now?

The angel: - Idris is with me, right here.

This was taking place in the fourth heaven. Then the angel of death said: "Glory to God! Glory to God! My Lord ordered me to take the soul of Idris in the fourth heaven, and I said to myself in my head, "How can that be? Idris is on Earth, and my Lord asks me to take his soul in the fourth heaven! It is mysterious!" But here I am, on my way down, and I come across him in the fourth heaven.

The angel asked him: - And how long does he have left to live (Idris)?

The angel of death answers: - He does not even have the blink of an eye left.

And there God took the soul of Idris through the intermediary of the angel of death in the fourth heaven. Idris remained in the fourth heaven, and when the prophet (ﷺ) passed by the fourth heaven, on the night of the night journey and the ascension, Idris greeted him and said to him: "Welcome to you O pious brother and pious prophet!"

Idris is one of the prophets of Allah (سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ), who died in the fourth heaven, and after him, the people remained upholders of the oneness of their Lord The Most High.

وَرَفَعْنَاهُ مَكَانًا عَلِيًّا

And We raised him to a high station.

Surah 19, verse 57
